As I’ve discussed recently, recovery isn’t as simple as taking time off. For many, it sometimes feels even harder than the burnout itself. In these two episodes of the Share, Inspire, and Explore podcast, I spoke to host Chris Wilson about why burnout recovery can be so difficult, and to explain the nature of obstacles that can hold people back during early recovery.
In the first episode I address two critical obstacles to recovery: situational factors and knowledge limitations. In the second, I discuss shame, illness, emotional difficulties, and core burnout symptoms — all effects of burnout that can create additional obstacles if they aren’t managed carefully. For each one, I discuss actions that can help you overcome these obstacles.
This was a really great conversation with Chris, whose lived experience with burnout and personal warmth makes him a great host. This pair of episodes is a worthwhile listening experience not only for people going through burnout but also for their partners, peers, or anyone else trying to understand the challenges of recovering from severe burnout.
The Share, Inspire, and Explore podcast is also available from your usual podcast app.
